Unfinished engineered oak flooring is made from layers of timber with a solid oak top, giving you the look of real oak with extra strength and stability. Because it comes unfinished, you can choose exactly how it’s stained, oiled or lacquered, making it a flexible option if you want a bespoke look.
Unfinished engineered oak flooring combines the beauty of real oak with the strength and stability of a layered construction. Each board has a solid oak veneer top that is supported by layers of timber beneath. This construction makes it less prone to warping or shrinking compared to solid wood.
One of the main advantages of choosing an unfinished engineered oak plank is flexibility. Because the boards come without a finish, you can decide exactly how you want them treated, whether that’s staining to achieve a particular tone, or applying oil or lacquer for the level of sheen and protection you prefer. This makes it an excellent choice if you want a truly bespoke look.
Engineered oak works well with underfloor heating, can be installed over a variety of subfloors including concrete, and is available in a range of thicknesses to suit different projects. With the natural beauty of oak grain and the freedom to customise, unfinished engineered oak flooring offers both style and adaptability.
Unfinished engineered oak flooring is a type of hardwood flooring made from multiple layers of wood, with a solid oak veneer on top and underlying layers of plywood or fibreboard. Unlike pre-finished options, unfinished engineered oak allows you to customise the finish, offering unmatched flexibility for creating a bespoke look.
The multi-layer construction makes it less prone to warping or shrinking, even in areas with changing temperatures. Whilst maintaining the same natural beauty and grain patterns as solid oak, it’s available in various thicknesses and can be installed over a range of subfloors, including concrete, and is compatible with underfloor heating, making it a highly adaptable choice for modern homes.
Unfinished engineered oak flooring offers a range of benefits, making it a popular choice for homeowners seeking a customisable and durable flooring solution:
To maintain unfinished engineered oak flooring, regularly sweep or vacuum to remove dirt and debris. You should use a damp mop occasionally with a cleaner made for wood surfaces, avoiding excessive moisture that could seep into seams. We also suggest protecting the floor by placing felt pads under furniture legs and using area rugs in high-traffic areas to prevent scratches.
Yes, unfinished engineered oak flooring can be refinished, and this is one of its key advantages. The ability to refinish depends on the thickness of the top hardwood veneer layer. Many unfinished engineered oak floors have a sufficiently thick veneer to allow for sanding and refinishing, enabling you to refresh the floor’s appearance and extend its lifespan. Because the flooring is unfinished, you have the added flexibility to apply your preferred stain or treatment during refinishing, ensuring it matches your interior design.
Yes, unfinished engineered oak flooring is an excellent choice for homes with underfloor heating systems. Its multi-layer construction ensures the stability required to withstand the temperature fluctuations associated with this heating method.
Engineered oak and solid oak flooring each have unique characteristics, making them suitable for different applications and preferences. Here are some key comparisons:
This will depend on the style you are looking for. For example, prime grade offers a clean, uniform look, select grade has slight variations and small knots for a balanced appearance, and rustic grade showcases larger knots and natural character for a more traditional feel.
The cost of unfinished engineered oak flooring will vary widely depending on factors such as quality, thickness, and the source of the wood. You will also need to consider costs for installation, finishing, and any necessary underlayment. Contact us for a free, direct quote.
Iain and I would like to thank you and your fantastic team for the fitting of our lovely new lounge floor. We are delighted with it and the colour is perfect, so absolutely 100% how we envisaged it.
Your fitting and finishing teams were great and very professional not to mention incredibly helpful so please do pass on our thanks to them. Thank you also for arranging for the matching piece of dado rail which Martin kindly fitted having removed the old bit, and it all looks great.
We will look forward to having our hall floor done in the same wood, colour, etc
I would like to say how pleased I am with the restoration of the Parque floors. They look really lovely, such a difference from what was hidden underneath the old fitted carpet. Dave and Martin did a superb job and were a pleasure to have working here. We would have no hesitation in recommending your company to anyone else.
I have used West Sussex Antique Timber on two separate occasions and was hugely impressed both times. WSA timber fitted solid wood plank flooring and engineered wood parquet flooring in my home, both types of flooring being of excellent quality. The craftsmanship of the fitters is commendable and the finish is flawless. I would not hesitate to recommend the company for an outstanding product and service.
My floor is all done and looking absolutely amazing thank you. I just wanted to tell you how pleased we are and to say that the three guys were brilliant- polite, tidy, respectful and very skilled at what they do. We have had many projects and trades at our house over 15 years and nothing ever goes right or it’s a battle to get it completed, so to have someone actually turn up, do exactly what they said and achieve exactly what we wanted is quite a novelty I can tell you.
