What are the benefits of restoring your wood floor?

Cost-effective alternative to replacement

Restoring wooden floors is significantly more affordable than a full replacement, allowing you to preserve their beauty without the high costs of new materials and installation.

Enhances property value

Well-maintained or restored wood floors can increase your home’s value, appealing to potential buyers who appreciate their charm.

Sustainable and reduces waste

Restoring your wooden floor is a great way of positively contributing to the environment, as it reuses old materials and minimises the need for extra materials.

Preserves historical features

We work with many historic properties across the country where the best choice, to keep the rustic and charmless feel of the flooring, is to restore it.

Types of wood we restore

We expertly revitalise aged and worn oak surfaces, addressing scratches, stains, and dents. By sanding and refinishing each solid oak floor, we highlight the natural grain and character of your flooring while ensuring lasting durability and beauty.

Parquet floors require meticulous care, and we know exactly how best to repair the intricate designs of all parquet flooring. With precise sanding and refinishing, we can restore detailed designs like Herringbone, Chevron, or Versailles patterns, bringing a new lease of life to your flooring.

To restore engineered wood floors, we gently sand  the top veneer layer and apply new, high-quality finishes to rejuvenate its appearance. We repair minor damage and recoat surfaces, ensuring your engineered flooring maintains its stability and sophisticated look.

Wood floor restoration FAQs

Is it worth restoring hardwood floors?

Yes, restoring hardwood floors is often worth it. Refinishing is usually more cost-effective than replacing the entire floor and can significantly enhance a room’s appearance while preserving the original material. It also maintains or increases your home’s value, especially in historic properties or if the wood is rare or high quality. However, restoration might not be viable if the floor is severely damaged or structurally compromised. We can advise on whether we think the floor is restorable or if it would be more cost effective to go with new flooring.

The early signs that your floors need restoring will include visible scratches, dents, or discolouration. The likes of warping or loose boards also indicate wear. If the finish looks dull or areas are worn down to bare wood, we would suggest restoration.

Most solid hardwood floors can be restored multiple times. Engineered wood can also be refinished, but only if the top layer is thick enough, which also limits the number of times it can be restored. Some parquet and speciality floors can be restored with care, but laminate and certain veneers are unsuitable for refinishing due to their thin top layers.

Yes, scratched or damaged parquet flooring can be restored. We would need to sand the surface to remove imperfections, followed by re-staining and sealing. However, severe damage to the flooring may require us to replace individual blocks. Due to the parquet’s unique pattern, we will need to take a detailed approach when restoring to ensure the floor maintains its original design.

Restored hardwood floors can look almost brand new, depending on their condition and the quality of restoration work. While minor imperfections might remain, proper sanding, staining, and sealing can rejuvenate the surface, giving it a refreshed, polished appearance.

Yes, it is safe when done correctly. We take a cautious approach when restoring flooring in historic buildings, as we often focus on preserving original features whilst using traditional techniques and materials. We have years of expertise working in historic and listed buildings, meaning we follow all the regulations and compliance surrounding the building’s character and value.

This will vary depending on the type of wood that needs restoring, alongside the size and scale of the project. However, restoration is typically more affordable than fully replacing the floor and will provide long-term value. We will always give an estimate of the cost before starting.
